The Rhisotope Project: Using Nuclear Science to Save the African Rhino

The University of Witwatersrand (WITs) initiated the project, which is being carried out in partnership with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), Colorado State University (USA), ROSATOM (Russian Federation), and the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa (Necsa), as well as international scientists, researchers, South African rhino owners, and veterinary experts.
Rosatom, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, is a major sponsor and collaborator of this groundbreaking international technology cooperation between universities and nuclear organizations. The project was officially launched at the glorious Buffalo Kloof Private Game Reserve, a key partner in the project. ....

Sycamore Shoals Sate Park wins historic preservation certificate of merit

ELIZABETHTON â Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park was one of the winners of the Certificate of Merit awards presented annually by the Tennessee Historical Commission. These awards are presented each May, during National Preservation Month.
Sycamore Shoals received the recognition because of the work done by Matthew Mosca, a nationally recognized consultant in the field of historic paint research and restoration. Using micro-chemical testing, Mosca can identify the constituents of paint finishes. He has also developed expertise in the examination of pigments using polarized light and ultraviolet fluorescent microscopy.
Mosca also uses scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared micro spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. ....

Unicoi County Budget and Finance Committee reviews sheriff's budget

The Unicoi County Commissionâs Budget and Finance Committee met Thursday to continue reviewing budget requests, one of which was from the Sheriffâs Office.
âThereâs some things that we canât help, because you all know weâre living in different times than we did this time last year, year before last,â said Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley. âThings have changed dramatically in the law enforcement field.â
The committee voted to revisit Hensleyâs request for $82,779 to fund two process server positions due to a backlog of process papers that were unable to be served due to COVID-19. ....

Historic preservation office announces cemetery grant process

SALEM â The Oregon Historic Cemeteries Grant committee will meet on Wednesday, May 26 to score and rank the applications for the Oregon Historic Cemeteries Grant program.
Recommendations from the committee will be forwarded to the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries for final review and approval on Friday, June 4, at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held via teleconference.
