Thousands of people lost their lives and economic losses to the tune of Rs 1,23,65,15,40,000 were suffered by major cities in India during 2020 due to air pollution.

Bengaluru: The latest study done by Greenpeace foundation has revealed some startling data on the impact of PM2.5 air pollution in Indian megacities. This study, done in 2020 using live air quality data collected by IQAir, has shown that PM2.5 air pollution claimed an estimated 54,000 lives in Delhi alone. This was much more than the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the national capital. ....

Mumbaikars feel the chill as temperature dips to season’s lowest; city s AQI slips back into unhealthy category
Mumbai, on Friday, woke up to pleasant weather as the city recorded 14.8 degrees Celsius - the season s lowest minimum temperature.
“The Santacruz observatory recorded the minimum temperature of 14.8 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, making it the season s lowest so far,” the
India Meteorological Department said.
“The northerly winds have pushed the mercury levels down. There will be no large change in the temperature for the next 24 hours, but a gradual rise in it is expected in the coming days,” it added. ....

Mumbai.
The Mumbai air is currently filled with smog, which is making its residents uncomfortable. In fact, since the beginning of January 2021, the air quality index (AQI) of Mumbai has been worse than Delhi.
“What has happened to the air in Mumbai ..?? I tried to walk in my balcony. and I felt like I was inhaling dust. only dust,” Juhi tweeted. ....

Mumbai witnesses worse air quality than Delhi
Mumbai on Friday once again recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 317 which was worse than that of Delhi, an official of the India Meteorological Department said. On Thursday too, the city s AQI was worse than that of the national capital.
The quality of air was worst in Colaba in south Mumbai on Friday as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India).
With AQI of 352, the air quality in the area fell in the very poor category.
Bandra Kurla Complex, a business district, recorded AQI of 346, Malad 338 and Andheri 333. ....
