The Taco Casa family remembers the April 27 tornado as well as anyone. The storm, which tore through their 15th Street location that fateful day added a chapter to the restaurant’s storied history that will forever define the fixture’s legacy in the community. They reflected on it today, opting to celebrate what was gained in the aftermath of the historic swath of storms.
Today marks 10 years since an EF4 tornado ripped through and destroyed 12.5 percent of Tuscaloosa in 2011. At least 53 people in Tuscaloosa were killed in the storm. Inside the city limits, more than 5,300 homes and 340 businesses were destroyed or severely damaged. ....

Thanks to the generosity of Alabama Power, nearly 400 hearty breakfasts from Full Moon Bar-B-Que were served to homeless and food-insecure residents in Birmingham on March 29. The meals had been pre-ordered for line crews released after storm restoration was completed more quickly than expected. Waste not, want not: When Alabama Power line crews restored power earlier than expected after heavy tornado damage in and around Birmingham and surrounding areas, the company on March 29 was left with 375 boxed breakfasts. ....

FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) - The Waffle House and Full Moon Bar-B-Que in Fultondale may not have any power, but they are still doing what they do best.feeding people.
Following Monday nightâs deadly EF-2 tornado, the restaurants started feeding anyone who needed a meal.
Both managerâs say the community has supported them so much that this is their way of giving back. ....

FULTONDALE, Ala. - Waffle House is known for always being open, and that’s a reputation the southern restaurant chain seems keen on protecting with or without electricity.
An EF-3 tornado moved through the Birmingham area on Monday evening, killing one person and injuring at least 30 others. The Fultondale area was also left without power.
Even so, Waffle House didn’t let the lack of electricity stop them from feeding the community. ....
