Three Muskoka doctors honoured for service

Three doctors in Muskoka have been honoured for exceptional service.
Dr. Roy Kirkpatrick and Dr. Malcolm Wilson of Huntsville, and Dr. Michael Mason of Bracebridge have each been awarded by different organizations.
Dr. Kirkpatrick, Huntsville General Surgeon, was awarded the Rural Specialist Merit Award by the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada. The award recognizes the long-term commitment of medical specialists who live and work in rural Canada.
“Members of the Society of Rural Physicians, in my view, are special people, because they have to provide top quality service to people in outlying areas, where they don’t have access to all of the infrastructure that somebody in downtown Toronto might have,” says Kirkpatrick. “So when a group of people like that recognizes you, that’s something you can sort of sit back and be very proud of.” ....

MAHC Hospitals stopped elective/non-urgent surgery after order from the province, otherwise doing well

Hospitals in Bracebridge and Huntsville are doing well capacity wise according to the CEO of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare.
In a call with the My Muskoka Now Newsroom, Natalie Bubela said the South Muskoka Memorial and Huntsville Hospitals’ emergency departments are well-managing the volume of patients coming through.
Bubela said what’s new this month is a directive from Ontario Health that was received on April 8th to stop all non-urgent and elective surgeries.
As a result of that, Bubela confirmed that on Monday, April 12th both hospitals did stop performing elective and non-urgent surgery and only began to do urgent and emergent procedures as well as cancer surgery. ....

COVID-19 News: Simcoe Muskoka logs more than 100 COVID-19 cases, plus one death

BARRIE, ONT.
Health officials in Simcoe Muskoka report more than 100 COVID-19 cases Friday and another death linked to the virus.
The region s health unit logged 106 infections in the last 24 hours, for a total of 430 new cases this week, a significant dip from the week before, which had 712 cases reported.
The death count reached 219 after a Simcoe County woman, 65 to 79, passed away from COVID-19 Thursday. So far, in April, 16 residents have lost their lives to the disease.
To date, the health unit has confirmed 9,824 infections. Of those, 8031 individuals recovered.
There are currently 1,149 active cases in Simcoe Muskoka, including 47 hospitalizations.

COVID-19 News: Simcoe Muskoka logs fewer than 100 COVID-19 cases for first time in a week

BARRIE, ONT.
The Simcoe Muskoka health unit reports a dip in new COVID-19 cases, with 87 infections confirmed after one week of counts over 100.
Simcoe County s positivity rate also dropped below the province s for the first time in over a month. With 250 new COVID-19 tests per 10,000 population, the health unit records its positivity rate fell to 5.3 per cent compared to Ontario s 7.9 per cent.
Health officials report 43 residents are in the hospital with the virus. There have been no new deaths associated with COVID-19 since Monday.
The drop in new cases comes as hospitals report record numbers of ICU admissions in April. Hospital officials urge residents to follow safety measures to prevent transmission of COVID-19. ....

KINGSTON, ON, April 1, 2021 /CNW/ - Novari Health has announced that it has executed an agreement with Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare to immediately implement its surgical wait list management and eBooking technology.
The Novari ATC software is being implemented at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare. The technology is being provided as software as a service (SaaS) to the hospital and all surgical offices. The system will provide these surgeons and their office staff access to a standardized electronic wait list management system and the ability to electronically coordinate the scheduling of surgeries and procedures with the hospital. The software enhances the ability for collaboration and management of pooled lists of patients waiting for surgery as well as supporting a regional view of the demand for surgical services. ....
