The Government has initiated the first independent review of the local government sector in three decades that will focus on how local democracy and local governance need to evolve over the next three decades.
The review panel will be made up of five people and is expected to report back in April 2023.
The panel is to explore local government s future in terms of roles, functions, partnerships, representation, governance, funding and financing. The review is also tasked with honouring the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles. ....

THAILAND: The government has been urged to carry out its mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 within three months, after a recent study found a single dose of the vaccine can increase immunity against the virus by 96.7%.

Renowned virologist Yong Poovorawan wrote on his Facebook page yesterday (May 3) that a study conducted on Thais who had received one shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine showed a 96.7% improvement in immunity against the virus when compared to unvaccinated individuals, while those who have recovered from COVID-19 between 4-8 weeks prior to testing showed a 92.4% improvement in immunity. The study was carried out on 61 individuals for one month after they received their first shot. ....

three decades, were laid to rest in Newton County, a rural corner of Indiana.

The Indian Premier League has been suspended following an increase in players testing positive for Covid-19.
IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has confirmed the move, saying the decision has been made due to safety concerns for all stakeholders.
In a statement, the IPL said the decision was unanimously made by the tournament s Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following an emergency meeting.
The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL, the statement said. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind. ....
