Shetland fires 'should act as warning to modular building industry'

Two devastating fires in Shetland should act as a warning to the modular building industry, it has been claimed.
The world-famous Fair Isle Bird Observatory was lost in 2019, followed last year by the Moorfield Hotel.
Both buildings were less than 10 years old and made from factory-built units, which had been shipped up to Shetland by sea.
One expert has called for a full investigation into why the fires took hold so quickly.
Both blazes were particularly severe, and fire crews were unable to stop the spread. No-one was injured in either incident. ....

Moorfield Hotel owner to sell site following fire

THE COMPANY which owned the Moorfield Hotel is to sell off the land as building a replacement would be âunviableâ.
Stewart Campbell of hotel owner BDL Shetland said the company has already put feelers out regarding the land near Toy Town in Brae.
The Â£6.5 million Moorfield Hotel burned down in July shortly before it was due to close after its contract to house gas plant workers changed hands.

All 70 occupants and staff escaped uninjured in the fire, which initially took hold of the upper section of the hotel.
BDL previously did not rule out building a new hotel on the site but director Campbell has now confirmed toÂ ....
