While fully in-person ceremonies are still envisioned for a safer date for the classes of 2020 and 2021, UCLA’s commencement season will be a hybrid of new and old graduation traditions, with a mix of virtual commencements and masked, in-person celebrations to meet the moment.
This year’s graduation festivities began May 15 and continue through June 15 for the roughly 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students receiving diplomas this year. This year also marks the first all-campus graduate procession, which will span six days.
Speakers like Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, Grammy-nominated violinist Regina Carter, and artist and social justice advocate Mr. Wash will be among those giving the graduates an inspiring send-off. NASA astronaut Megan McArthur will deliver a speech from the International Space Station, and U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-California) already addressed UCLA School of Law gr ....

Venezuela s Gustavo Dudamel was only a teenager when he first picked up a conductor s baton, and has since conquered many of the world s orchestral stages.
Having just turned 40, the lively maestro with a mop of curly hair is taking on a new challenge: he will be the new musical director of the Paris Opera.
For more than a decade, Dudamel has been wielding his baton at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, where he rose to be artistic director and secure a multi-million-dollar contract and he will keep that role even as he takes over in Paris. ....

State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music faculty and several alumni were among the winners of 2021 GRAMMY awards presented over the weekend.
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, prepared by the chorus’ Music Director and School of Music faculty member Dr. Adam Luebke, received the GRAMMY for Best Choral Performance for the recording of Richard Danielpour’s “The Passion of Yeshua.” Bernd Gottinger, head of Fredonia’s Sound Recording Technology program, was the engineer. Gottinger was also nominated for a GRAMMY in the category of Best Engineered Album, Classical for his work on the “The Passion of Yeshua.” ....
