Coast outriggers return to competitive waters

Mooloolaba will kick off the season after the opening round of the series on the Gold Coast was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Brisbane last month.
Club president Allan Rasmussen said the last time they hosted a meet in Mooloolaba waters was March last year before the pandemic took hold.
“I’m pretty excited and we’ve got some good numbers coming,” he said
“It means a lot to the club, obviously we didn’t have any income coming in last year due to Covid so it’s certainly going to help
“It’s what everybody has been looking forward to for quite a while. ....

After battling breast cancer five years ago and going into remission, she was told last year it had returned and spread through her body.
The paddling community has paid tribute to Atkinson following her passing, with Mooloolaba outrigger and women s coach Jenny Rasmussen sharing plenty of fond memories.
She was just a positive and inspirational kind of person, Rasmussen said.
Nothing was too much trouble for her and she d always have a go.

Rasmussen said Atkinson had been a member of the Mooloolaba club for almost 10 years, after joining from fellow paddling group Panamuna Outrigger Canoe Club. ....
