The Nigerian telecommunications sector is in dire need of stability. Several incursions of the ministry of communications and Digital Economy, into the functions and activities of the otherwise independent regulator of the sector, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, have not only dimmed the vibrancy of the sector but have also put noticeable fear in the minds of foreign investors.
Valid as the objectives of some of the incursions appear, the act that set up the regulatory body appears to have been jettisoned in some of the directives cum policies coming from the sector in recent times. ....

4G: Nigeria's Towers And Optical Fibre Assets Rise, NCC Says


Nigeria’s towers on third and fourth-generation mobile technologies otherwise known as 3G and 4G respectively, including optical fibre networks, have grown in the last five years, the telecoms regulator says.
Within the last five years, 3G and 4G base deployment in Nigeria has increased from 30,000 to 53,460 to boost the nation’s transmission capacity for delivery of broadband and telecoms services, Professor Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) disclosed in a statement by the telecoms regulator.
Fibre Optic Transmission cables also expanded from 47,000km to 54,725km within the period expanding their lightning speed transmission capacity across Nigeria. ....

NCC: 3G, 4G Telecom Towers Deployment Hits 53,460

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that the third generation (3G) and fourth generation (4G) Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) deployment in Nigeria has reached 53,460, up from its initial 30,000 in 2020, while fibre optic transmission cables expanded from 47,000 kilometres to 54,725km in the last five years.
The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday, while receiving the new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Festus Daudu, said the increase resulted in improved broadband/telecoms service delivery across networks.
Danbatta spoke on NCC’s enabling laws, mandates of NCC, its structure, implementation approach of its mandates and methodology, key focus and targets, scorecards, the new soon-to-be-unveiled Strategic Management Vision (SVP), NCC’s contributions to the economy, various regulatory frameworks aimed at improving service ....

The third-generation (3G) and fourth-generation (4G) base transceiver stations (BTS) deployment in Nigeria has increased from 30,000 to 53,460 while fibre optic transmission cables expanded from 47,000km to 54,725km in the last five years, resulting in improved broadband/telecoms service.
These were parts of industry growth data reeled out by the Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, at a briefing for the new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Festus Yusuf Daudu, on the functions and regulatory activities of the Commission in Abuja.
