Press Release: Town of Needham launches COVID-19 emergency rental assistance program

The following is a Town of Needham press release.
Needham Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick announced Wednesday that funding is still available to help Needham residents who have lost income due to COVID-19 make rent payments in the coming months.
Approved by Special Town Meeting in October, the Emergency Rental Assistance Program includes $120,000 from the Community Housing Reserve and the Community Preservation Fund, both overseen by the Community Preservation Committee.
The program is also funded through a grant of $50,000 from the Massachusetts Covid-19 Relief Fund, secured for Needham by the Foundation for MetroWest.
“The rental assistance program offered by the Town of Needham has been incredibly helpful as the pandemic continues to create financial challenges for people like me who work in the service industry,” said Kimberly Collyer, a Needham resident who was laid off from her job as a bartender due to Covid in March. ....

Emergency Housing Assistance extended
I’m so pleased that two nights ago, the Newton Community Preservation Committee agreed to extend the City’s COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Program for a longer period. This program assists Newton households who continue to face a loss of income due to COVID-19 and are struggling to pay housing costs. The CPC approved our Planning Department’s request to extend that assistance for up to eight months for qualified households. ....

Newton extends COVID-19 emergency housing relief program

Newton officials have extended the cityâs COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Program to help local households that have faced a loss of income due during the pandemic and struggle with housing costs, Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said in a statement.
The cityâs Community Preservation Committee voted earlier this month to extend the programâs assistance to qualified households from three months to as many as eight months, according to Fuller.
The program is aimed at Newton renters who earn 80 percent or less of the area median income, according to the statement. Thatâs roughly $113,000 for a family of four, according to the cityâs Housing & Community Development Division. ....
