MetroHealth System expands Metro Life Flight coverage in Wayne County


SMITHVILLE Metro Life Flight will be available 24/7 from the Wayne County Airport starting Monday.
The MetroHealth System is expanding the life-saving services of its Metro Life Flight helicopter and placing one of its three helicopters at the county airport on July 5. The 24/7 service will help reduce travel time when transporting patients from Wayne County and surrounding areas to the appropriate health care facility.
“This move will save lives. It allows MetroHealth to offer its world-class emergency care to more people across Ohio,” said MetroHealth President and CEO Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE in a press release. “We’re honored to partner with the first responders in Wayne County to offer this service.” ....

One of the biggest impacts we witnessed thought was how fast science shared the knowledge it learned on the front lines to those creating treatments back in the lab. Within months, not years, game-changing treatments like Remdesivir and monoclonal antibodies arrived at the patient’s bedside. 
And of course, vaccines. The record for the last vaccine to go from lab to market was four years. Moderna and Pfizer did it in less than nine months.  ....
