Milngavie Heritage group's concerns over recommendations in East Dunbartonshire Council's Historic Environment Review

Concerns over the loss of Townscape Protection Area status in parts of Milngavie
They include the Review’s recommendation to withdraw Local Garden and Designed Landscape status from the rural periphery of Mains Estate to the north west of Milngavie and also Tannoch Loch/ Barloch Moor area.
The MHC Group says the Review completely ignores the historical significance of these two areas to the development of Milngavie and the pleasure that these natural environments give to the local community.
The Group is also disturbed that both the Keystone Road/ Avenue area and the Ferguson Avenue/Balvie Road area are set to lose their Townscape Protection Area status ( TPA ). This was a Council designation awarded to these areas in the past because of their historical significance and distinctive architectural features. ....

Residents walking dogs last week complained of discolouration of the burn in the area which normally runs clear.
Scottish Water revealed to the Herald that there had been a discharge of silt into the water as work progressed on a new water mains project for the area.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), our alliance partners, are working on a £30m Scottish Water project which includes the installation of about eight miles of new water mains and will benefit 54,000 people in parts of the Bearsden, Milngavie, Clydebank and Strathblane areas.
“On Friday (April 23) there was a brief discharge of silt-laden water to a tributary of the Craigton Burn near Mains Estate, Milngavie when water was being pumped from an excavation on the project. ....

Covid-19 cases in East  Dunbartonshire have tripled in the space of just a couple of weeks as fears rise over the new strain of the disease.

For the seven days up to December 18, positive  cases in the area had fallen to around 90 in 100,000.
But on Tuesday, the seven-day positive rate, based on people tested between December 27 and January 2, had soared to 265.1, according to the latest data from Public Health  Scotland (PHS).
The total number of  positive cases locally was 288.
The worst affected areas were listed as Auchinairn and Bishopbriggs with a seven-day positive rate of  more than 400 per 100,000 population. ....
