Mainline Printing sues White Lakes mall owner Kent Lindemuth over property neglect

Mainline Printing is suing KDL Inc., the company that owns the former White Lakes Mall, alleging the property owner neglected the property and didn’t keep it in “attractive and good condition.”
A Shawnee County District Court lawsuit said the property owner has operated in default of a Declaration of Restrictions, Covenants and Easements Development Agreement since at least 2016. That declaration was recorded around Oct. 8, 2004, and requires demolition or repairs to the property.
“No such demolition or repairs have been commenced,” the lawsuit said.
Kelly Trussell, an attorney at Sloan, Eisenbarth, Glassman, McEntire & Jarboe, said a 20-day notice was sent to KDL Inc. alerting it of the issues with the property, but nothing happened. ....

Cause remains undetermined for fire at former White Lakes Mall

Authorities said a tip they received led them to arrest three people Wednesday in connection with the intentionally set fire that did an estimated $100,000 damage Tuesday morning at the former White Lakes Mall, 3600 S.W. Topeka Blvd.
Topeka Fire Marshal Todd Harrison identified one of those taken into custody as Joel A. Sink, 18, of Topeka.
He wasn t releasing the names, ages or genders of the other two people arrested, whom he said were juveniles.
Each was taken into custody in connection with arson, criminal damage to property and criminal trespassing, Harrison said.
Sink was booked at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday into the Shawnee County Jail, where he was being held Thursday without bond, according to jail records. ....

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Firefighters worked in freezing rain Tuesday morning to battle a fire that appeared to do significant damage to a nearly abandoned shopping mall in south Topeka.
Firefighters were called to the White Lakes Mall at about 6:30 a.m., according to local news reports. Multiple crews fought the blaze and appeared to have it mostly under control after about an hour.
Local property tax records show that the mall had an appraised value of less than $812,000. The mall property includes one remaining business, Mainline Printing, at its north end, which apparently didn’t sustain damage, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported. ....
