MERIDEN — Attorneys representing Meriden and a resident who filed a federal lawsuit against the city, its former police chief and a former police detective alleging First Amendment retaliation, have agreed to settle the matter, according to recent legal filings.
Meriden resident Christopher Dingwell Sr. originally filed the complaint in 2017. It listed as co-defendants former Meriden Police Chief Jeffry Cossette, former union president and police Detective John Williams and the city of Meriden. ....

MERIDEN — The City Council is looking to revive a previously vital city board, which decades ago had been active on issues related to civil rights and discrimination, but has been inactive in recent years. 
The Human Rights Advisory Board would have an expanded role under proposed changes before the council, and bear a new name: the “Human Rights, Racial Equity and Social Justice Advisory Board.” Those changes would be voted on as an amendment to chapter six of the Meriden City Code.  ....
