Meridian Capital China, a leading TMT-focused venture capital firm, has completed fundraising for its sixth yuan fund at an aggregate of 2.12 billion yuan ($329 million), per its announcement on May 20.
The vehicle received capital commitments from state-owned development funds, local government-led industry funds, funds of funds, insurance groups and conglomerates.
In the statement, Meridian Capital said it expects to secure over 3.3 billion yuan ($513 million) for its new funds launched in 2021, including a closed angel fund and a soon-to-be-closed industry fund.
Going forward, Meridian Capital will continue to bet big on new consumption and technology sectors. ....

China's consumers find appetite for low-cal foods


Low-calorie meal-replacement products are emerging as big business in China as consumers demand products to help control weight and that also satisfy and offer high-quality nutrition.
Sales of meal replacements in China are forecast to reach 120 billion yuan ($18.4 billion) by 2022, according to market research company Euromonitor International. That’s up from 57.17 billion yuan ($8.8 billion) in 2017.
Most buyers of the products are women, reports China Daily, which quotes an investment manager with Meridian Capital China, Fu Yazhang, as saying many companies selling the products had made good profits in recent years, but this year has seen a boom in sales.
