Melissa Seifert, associate state director of government affairs at AARP Michigan, said vaccine appointments are available through local health departments. However, she noted that with such high demand, time slots are in short supply and the online system can be glitchy.
We re hearing from our members the frustration, the confusion, she said. It s such an exciting time to know that we came out with the vaccine, that there s light at the end of this tunnel. But yet, the access to it is really what s holding people back and making them worry.
The state is averaging roughly 30,000 shots per day, with a goal to reach 50,000. Seifert said AARP can help answer questions about the vaccine, and help folks learn how they can sign up. The information is online at aarp.org/mi. ....

The office of Governor Gretchen Whitmer has released a task force report on lowering prescription drug prices. It has also released the recommendations made by the task force. The governor’s office has issued the following:

Though the vaccines for fighting COVID-19 are beginning to be distributed, it may still be a while before nursing home residents and staff in Livingston County and across the state are in the clear.
Michigan seems to be seeing improving numbers on the coronavirus front as vaccines are starting to be administered and cases were leveling off before Christmas. Experts, however, warn that the risk of exposure is still high, especially in the state’s long-term care facilities. According to the AARP Nursing Home COVID-19 Dashboard, the latest data shows still increasing resident and staff cases, with resident deaths and rising staff shortages. ....
