Woman hired via Facebook to smuggle immigrants

A woman said that a man she met on Facebook offered her $3,000 to transport immigrants who were in the country illegally, according to an arrest affidavit filed on Feb. 4.
The case unfolded at about 10 p.m. Feb. 2, when a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper requested assistance from the Cotulla Border Patrol Station on a traffic stop. The trooper had pulled over a Chevrolet Tahoe for speeding on a construction zone on Interstate 35 near Artesia Wells in La Salle County.
Authorities identified the driver as Melissa Lizette Ruvalcaba, a U.S. citizen from Elmendorf, Texas. Border Patrol said that the remaining four passengers were immigrants who had crossed the border illegally. Ruvalcaba and the immigrants were taken into custody for further investigation. Ruvalcaba allegedly agreed to provide a post-arrest statement without an attorney present. ....
