MOULTRIE, Ga. – As area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities reach capacity due to increased need and staff shortages, three South Georgia senior living communities – Legacy Village at Park Regency in Moultrie, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor in Thomasville, and Legacy Village of Tifton – will start accepting short-term patients in need of care after a hospital discharge. ....

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Moultrie groups are planning their annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebrations with an eye to the coronavirus pandemic.
The annual parade will not be held this year, and an awards celebration will be held online. The Colquitt County branch of the NAACP, however, plans three days of outreach to people in need.
The NAACP’s service projects will begin Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16-17, with a canned food drive. Drop-off locations will be Piggly Wiggly and Save-A-Lot grocery stores, both on First Avenue Southeast. ....

Both women are natives of Cook County. The installation service was held at Shoney’s in Moultrie. The hairdressers’ association was organized to promote greater interest in the profession and fellowship among the hairdressers of the area. The organization is also active in civic work in Moultrie, contributing to the Heart Fund, fine arts, and nursing homes in Colquitt County. ....

UPDATE: Shooting victim identified

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock identified a Sunday morning shooting victim as 25-year-old Rhoderick Moore of Moultrie.
Brock said Moore was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m. Sunday following a shooting at a South Main Street restaurant earlier that morning.
Three other people were also hurt.
Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Thomasville office, said the Moultrie Police Department requested the GBI’s assistance about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at the restaurant, 1117 S. Main St.  ....
