Thirteen local people are being honored as finalists for the Jefferson award this year for their extraordinary service to the community.
For the second year in a row, the event will be virtual because of the pandemic. There will be no get-together where they will be feted.
From helping children diagnosed with cancer and their families to helping refugees navigate their way in their new country to collecting used musical instruments for schoolchildren who cannot afford to buy them to making beds for children who do not have them, these volunteers have spent countless hours pursuing causes to benefit others. ....

Ryan is a very compassionate kid and each year I talk to him about how important St. Jude Radiothon is and what they do. I asked him about cancer, St. Jude, and how he thinks we can all help the parents of the sick children worry less. When you listen to the words and innocence of a child talking about these things, there is something extra powerful in their words.
Ryan will be ten-years-old in April and we know we are very fortunate and blessed to have a healthy child. I wanted him to know what an amazing place the St. Jude Children s Research Hospital is and how important it is to help others in need. He has known a child that has been treated at the Melodies Center at Albany Med for leukemia. I explained to him that St. Jude is also helping that kid fight cancer. I explained that they do research and send that to Albany Med to help them treat kids right here in the Capital Region. I said this is how that chi ....
