While DDoS attack numbers held fairly steady from the previous quarter of 2021, attack volumes escalated dramatically, a report from Radware has disclosed.
Radware s recently released quarterly DDoS attack report analyses attack activity by industries, attack vectors, DDoS attacks on applications and on-premise versus cloud. Major findings include the following:
The first half of Q1 was characterised by large attacks on finance and a continuation of the 2020 ransom DDoS campaign. By the end of 2020, extortionists started circling back to earlier victims who did not pay ransom in earlier attempts, reusing their attack research and increasing the pace of their campaign to benefit from the surging Bitcoin value. ....

Insurance provider AAMI is trialling a virtual human chatbot with selected motor insurance customers using technology by Soul Machines.
Under the pilot, Ava is being trained to answer questions relating to policy coverage, price, discounts, excess, optional extras, claims and payment options.
By turning on their microphone and camera, customers will be able to ask Ava questions; the chatbot is designed to take audiovisual cues from the face and tone of customers, and to adjust its approach and demeanour accordingly.
Executive general manager of digital distribution Katherine Carmody said the trial group is expected to grow alongside Ava’s capabilities before being rolled out to other parts of AAMI’s business. ....

Qantas runs 'crew in the cloud' program to train staff in AWS skills

Qantas put dozens of staff, including some of those furloughed as a result of Covid-19, through a two month ‘crew in the cloud’ training and certification program with Amazon Web Services.
The program, which ran over eight weeks in March and April, trained up 80 staff in cloud skills, with the aim of creaing cloud fluency across the airline and possible future career pathways.
It is the latest in a string of organisational-wide programs aimed at upskilling staff at Australian companies, including NAB, Telstra and Kmart, though is significantly smaller in scale. ....
