GAPS board to interview former state schools official for interim job

Rob Saxton, a former Albany teacher and administrator and Oregon s first deputy superintendent of public instruction, will interview Monday with the Albany School Board to potentially become interim superintendent.
The meeting will be at 5 p.m. and will be available for public viewing on the district s YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/c/GreaterAlbanyPublicSchools. Public comment on the candidate will be taken in writing in advance of the meeting.
Board members voted 4-1 in a special meeting Friday, with Michael Thomson dissenting, to suspend Board Policy CBB, which outlines the usual procedure for a superintendent search. They voted unanimously to authorize the district s legal counsel, Paul Dakopolos, to negotiate a contract with a prospective interim superintendent candidate subject to board approval at the next board meeting. ....

ALBANY, Ore. - At the conclusion of Friday s meeting, Greater Albany Public School district board members favored Rob Saxton to be the district s interm superintendent.
Saxton formerly worked as a deputy superintendent on the state level.
Dozens of protestors gathered outside of the meeting to contest the board s decision to move forward in the search for an interim superintendent. Many of them said the decision to fire Melissa Goff was done too quickly. ....

Clackamas High School principal Nate Muñoz condemned a hate crime in a video posted to school s Instagram page on May 24, expressing concern for how the incident might make students and families of color feel unsafe.
Anonymous vandals plastered the front of the school overnight with Trump stickers and beans, a derogatory reference to people of Latino origin. About 13% of CHS s student body is Hispanic/Latino, compared to nearly 20% overall in the North Clackamas School District. ....

CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) The Clackamas High School principal on Monday found the front doors of the school plastered with Donald Trump stickers and defaced with beans, a derogatory symbol against Latinx people.
In a letter to families and students Monday, principal Nate Muñoz said the vandalism appears to have started as a prank, which included throwing toilet paper on trees and writing on sidewalks, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.
But he said the vandals also defaced the front doors with beans, stickers and other signs supporting the former president, who made multiple racist comments toward and about Latinx people. ....
