Julius Jones supporters in Oklahoma celebrate decision to move his commutation request forward

Applause and shouts of joy arose on Monday as people gathered at a prayer vigil learned that Julius Jones commutation request had been moved to the next phase.
The vigil had been underway for about 35 minutes outside the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board office, 2915 N Classen, before Jones supporters learned that the board had voted to move his request to the next phase of the commutation process. This journey is not over but oh, our hearts are happy! the Rev. T. Sheri Dickerson, leader of Black Lives Matter-Oklahoma City, said as people cheered and hugged one another.

(RNS) An Oklahoma parole board has voted to grant Julius Jones, an inmate who has been on death row for two decades, an additional hearing to determine if he should gain clemency.
The Justice for Julius campaign, a group that has been advocating for his release, announced Monday (March 8) on its Instagram account that the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board, by a vote of 3-1, advanced Jones’ case to a “stage two” hearing.
