Bill C-208 passes, but amendments are coming 20 July 2021 at 18 h 36 min Reading time: 30 s By Matthew McCully While Bill C-208, an act to lessen the tax burden on intergenerational transfers of small businesses, farms and fishing corporations recently passed into law, the federal government was quick to point out that amendments are on the way. A press release from the Finance Department was published on Monday explaining the government’s intentions moving forward, citing a commitment to facilitate genuine intergenerational share transfers while protecting the integrity of the tax system. “The government is clarifying that it does intend to bring forward amendments to the Income Tax Act that honour the spirit of Bill C-208 while safeguarding against any unintended tax avoidance loopholes that may have been created,” the press release reads. ....
1 July 2021 at 16 h 34 min Reading time: 30 s By Matthew McCully Thanks to a collaboration between the City of Sherbrooke and the Sherbrooke Rotary Club, a new mixed media sculpture has been installed along the pedestrian path of Lac des Nations. Made of granite and metal, the sculpture, designed to recognize the 100th anniversary of the local Rotary Club, was unveiled at a ceremony on Wednesday. In 2019 the club turned 100. It was then that member Maryse Garand came up with the idea to mark the occasion with a permanent fixture in Sherbrooke. Garand came up with a concept and then local sculptor Pascale Archambault was hired to build the design. The sculpture project was two years in the making. ....
