THOUSANDS of pupils will begin to return to school in York and North Yorkshire after months of remote learning.
All children will be able to return to class from Monday under the first step to ease restrictions, but secondary schools can stagger the return of students over the week to allow for mass testing.
As The Press revealed on Saturday, every state secondary school in York is set to reopen to pupils today bucking national trends.
The chairman of the city’s Schools and Academies Board, John Tomsett, said there will be no need for a staggered start at any of the nine state secondaries. ....

All York state secondary schools return to class on Monday


EVERY state secondary school in York is set to reopen to pupils on Monday (March 8) bucking national trends.
As the first measure taking the country out of the third national coronavirus lockdown, schools are allowed to reopen fully from Monday, but many across England have needed to stagger start dates because of the enormity of the task of swab testing thousands of pupils.
It comes after last month, the Department for Education announced that all secondary pupils should be offered a test for Covid-19 before setting foot back in school. The government said that a staggered start to term was permitted, so that schools could test pupils, year group by year group over the first week back. ....

BETT Edtech Awards shortlists ARC Education for ARC Maths app


Rachel Dunsmore, creator and founder of York-based ARC Education which has been shortlisted for a BETT Edtech Award.
A YORK-based education company has been shortlisted for an award for its new innovative maths app.
ARC Maths app was designed by maths teacher and mother-of-four Rachel Dunsmore, who is the creator and founder of ARC Education.
The app involves a daily set of 12 questions drawn from the KS3 and KS4 curriculums with personalised programmes for each student.
Rachel created ARC Maths after realising the App she wanted for her pupils did not exist.
Her app which was tested in the classroom by pupils and staff at Manor CE Academy, which is part of the Hope Learning Trust, can be used on iPads at school or at home, with teachers able to see their students progress. ....
