Robber claims he placed bomb in Mansfield Stop & Shop; no explosive found, search for suspect under way

MANSFIELD- A man walked into Stop & Shop in Mansfield Thursday afternoon, Dec. 16, and approached the Citizens Bank counter saying this was a robbery and he had placed explosives in the building, according to Mansfield police.
Responding officers quickly evacuated the Copeland Drive plaza and began a search for the alleged bomb as well as the suspect.
The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money by the bank employees, Police Chief Ron Sellon said. He then left the building.
The state explosive ordnance disposal unit and the town’s own K9 unit of Officer Michael Fitzgerald and Ronan searched the building and found no explosives, Sellon said. ....
