Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans Focuses On Building Relationships Share via: Michael Evans Made History As The First Black Mayor of Mansfield Michael Evans wasn’t trying to make history, he was simply offering his leadership to the city he loves so much. Now he’s doing both as the first black mayor in the City of Mansfield’s 130-year history. Evans was elected in a runoff on Dec. 9, defeating City Council Member Brent Newsom with 54% of the vote to Newsom’s 46%. He was sworn into office on Jan. 11. “I count it both a honor and a privilege to have been chosen by a cross section of the Mansfield community,” Evans said. “I am well aware of the fact that I am standing both on the backs and the shoulders of a great pioneers and people who did not have the same opportunities that I have been blessed with.”

Mansfield ISD Aviation Club Helps Students Soar

Focus Daily News The Mansfield School District is proud of creating students who soar through life. In the case of one group of students, this is literal, the Aviation Club, which features students throughout the entire district interested in learning to fly airplanes. The club has about 18 members, most of whom meet virtually. It is led by Danielle Flores, family consumer science teacher at Timberview High, where a few students meet in-person. The only qualification to belong to the club is to be a MISD student, Flores said. “I have hopes to grow and have the club go on fields trips to museums and fly-ins,” Flores said, adding that currently “Students can just come to the meetings, and I hope to share the passion and opportunity with all those who attend.”
