A bonanza New Zealand apple season which delivered significantly better fruit sizes, volumes and quality, plus Covid 19-driven demand in some international supermarkets made T&G Global s apple business the star performer of a much improved 2020 financial year.
The apple business delivered a revenue increase of 24 per cent to $875.2 million for the year to December 31, which along with efficiency gains, boosted this division s operating profit by 56 per cent, from $33.5m in 2019 to $52.1m.
T&G s major New Zealand apple markets are North America, Asia and Europe. The improved apple crop helped offset a reduction in packhouse throughput and increased supply chain costs due to Covid-19. ....

The EU and Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement enters into force
The European Union-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) today entered into force. It has now been ratified by the Republic of Armenia, all EU Member States and the European Parliament. This represents an important milestone for EU-Armenia relations.
This Agreement provides a framework for the EU and Armenia to work together in a wide range of areas: strengthening democracy, the rule of law and human rights; creating more jobs and business opportunities, improving legislation, public safety, a cleaner environment, as well as better education and opportunities for research. This bilateral agenda also contributes to overall aim of the EU to deepen and strengthen its relations with the countries of its Eastern neighbourhood through the Eastern Partnership framework. ....

Doha: Vodafone Qatar yesterday announced the launch of a new cross-country campaign to showcase the improvements it has made to its GigaNet network. The campaign demonstrates that the Vodafone network is at its strongest, biggest and fastest point in the Company’s history, in order to better support both consumers and businesses.
Since 2018, Vodafone Qatar has poured more than QR1bn worth of investment into its advanced network. During that time, the number of Vodafone outdoor and indoor mobile sites in Qatar has increased by over 35%.
Users can access the network in more areas of the country than ever before with a higher quality of connections for data and voice, and while data traffic has increased by 5X, Vodafone customers are experiencing 300% faster data speeds. ....

Islamabad: The defence experts speaking at a webinar termed the Indian willingness to restore the ceasefire agreement on the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan is merely an eyewash.
Though the experts welcomed the Indian aspiration for peace on the LoC, they termed the move ‘getting a breathing space for their strategic gain’ and to divert the world’s attention from the actual situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
They said the agreement was inked in 2003 that was revoked by the Indian government unilaterally in 2014 to intensify atrocities in IIOJK. Pakistan shall ask India to do more in real terms to improve the peace and human rights situation in the IIOJK, and to stop unwarranted propaganda against Pakistan on the global forums. ....
