Police in Brussels have opened an investigation into an incident in which a motorist deliberately hit a cyclist in the centre of the capital, according to a report carried by several media outlets on Saturday and confirmed later by the police. The victim filmed the incident and posted a video of it on Twitter.
The video shows how the car cuts off the cyclist s route on Place Royale as he was heading towards Rue de Namur. The car stops, presumably because the cyclist has caught the driver’s attention.
A brief verbal quarrel ensues between the cyclist and the driver of the car. When the cyclist begins his journey again, moving in front of the vehicle, the car restarts and strikes the cyclist, knocking him off his bike. ....

Belgian police have contacted Facebook to remove a post advertising an unauthorized festival planned for this weekend because of concerns that the gathering could lead to violent clashes and an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The festival is being advertised on social media as a sequel to an April Fools Day party that drew thousands of people to one of Brussels largest parks, Bois de la Cambre, and ended in clashes with police earlier this month. A group called Abyss for Saturday is leading the new event in the same park. ....

BRUSSELS, April 1 (Reuters) - Police used teargas and water cannons on Thursday to disperse thousands of young people gathered in a Brussels park for a party in defiance of Belgium s COVID-19 lockdown, an event that began as an April Fool s joke on Facebook.
Around 2,000 people showed up towards the end of a warm and sunny day to attend La Boum (the party) in the Bois de la Cambre park, local police said, even though the organisers had revealed days earlier that their invitation on social media was a hoax. Local media put the number of people at about 5,000. ....
