(Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images) MANASSAS, VA Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe received the support of several Manassas and Prince William County officials on Thursday as the former governor continues his push to return to office. Manassas Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger, Vice Mayor Pamela Sebesky, City Treasurer Patricia Richie-Folks and Councilors Mark Wolfe, David Farajollahi and Ralph Smith all endorsed McAuliffe on the heels of his announcement this week to reform Virginia s criminal justice system. McAuliffe also gained the support of Prince William County School Board Chairman Babur Lateef and former Prince William County Supervisor Frank Principi, both of whom came out in support of the Democrat.

A total of 28 new townhomes are proposed to be built at the corner of Godwin and Hastings drives, next to George C. Round Elementary School. The development, called Kings Landing, would sit on property owned by Micheal Vanderpool, a prominent land-use and development lawyer in the region. On December 14, 2020, Vanderpool spent an hour lobbying the City Council on the new development’s perceived plusses, such as providing new housing for established families that would soon move to the city with the nearby expansion Micron microchip manufacturing facility. Micron is slated to bring 1,100 high-paying jobs to the city within the next eight years.

Funeral home expansion would oust Manassas hair salon Pierce Funeral Home The Manassas City Council will have more time to decide whether or not to allow an indoor columbarium near the city’s downtown. The Council on Monday, December 14 deferred a decision on whether or not to rezone about an acre of land at the Pierce Funeral Home at 9605 Center Street for the columbarium, where cremains would be stored. It’ll make its decision when the council meets again on January 11, 2021. The columbarium would replace a house next to the funeral home, owned by the funeral home, home to business, Exclusive Hair Designs. The hair salon customers urged the Council to deny the rezoning request, saying “[the city] will have a whole block that focuses on death” if the rezoning is approved.
