Covid: Rates falling in Winchester district except for one new area: Friday January 29

COVID rates are falling faster in Winchester district than anywhere else in Hampshire, today s figures confirm.
The district is now in the top ten per cent of districts for infection rates with only 26 out of 315 in the UK doing better, and none in Hampshire.
The
Chronicle has reported the daily figures since last summer and was first to report the trend for declining infection rates around three weeks ago.
All parts of the Winchester district are now below the England average as rates improve in
Winchester East, Whiteley Knowle and Wickham, and
Bishop s Waltham and Waltham Chase.
But infection rates are climbing in ....

Covid: one Winchester district bucking the trend for a fall in infections

OVERALL Covid-19 rates are still going in the right direction across the Winchester district.
But one area is bucking the trend. In parts of Winchester the decline has reversed. In Winchester East, which covers part of the city centre, Winnall, Highcliffe and Bar End, the rolling seven-day total has risen from 282 on Sunday to 392 today, and has doubled in a week, up from 196 last Thursday.
Its rate is now close to the England average. In Winchester East in the seven days to January 16 there were 32 new cases, up 15, an increase of 88 per cent.
The reason for the recent spike is unclear. ....
