Siena was denied its first-ever MAAC championship, as Fairfield again topped the Saints in the league title game at its home Rafferty Stadium in Fairfield, Connecticut. Down three goals minutes into the game, Fairfield rallied back to produce a 12-8 win and secure its third consecutive league championship, and second in a row with a win against the Saints in the final. ....
Siena women’s lacrosse seeking first MAAC championship | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 LOUDONVILLE A couple years ago, the Siena women’s lacrosse program could see the “finish line,” but was unable to reach it. “Right now,” Siena women’s head coach Abby Rehfuss said Thursday after her team’s semifinal win, “everyone’s just determined to cross it.” Siena lost 10-9 in overtime in that 2019 MAAC final at Fairfield, and the Saints’ wait for another chance at claiming their first-ever MAAC tournament championship was delayed a season when the 2020 MAAC season and tournament was canceled because of concerns related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The opportunity, though, is finally here for the Saints when they play at Fairfield in Sunday’s 1 p.m. championship game to win the game that “means everything,” as senior Nicole McNeely put it, to the Saints. ....

That wasn’t easy but the Saints sure made clinching their long-coveted spot in Sunday’s final look that way. “It’s [been] hard not to look forward to the championship game, but we know we have to take it one game at a time because if we don’t win the game that’s in front of us, we’re not going to get there,” Siena senior Kerry Gerety said after the Saints’ 20-11 win Thursday in the MAAC semifinals against Monmouth. “So we made it a point of emphasis to keep it one game at a time.” ....

Siena women’s lacrosse wins 5th consecutive game | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 LOUDONVILLE Nicole McNeely and Mary Soures each scored four goals, as the Siena women’s lacrosse team picked up a 13-12 MAAC win Friday against Monmouth. Siena never led by more than four goals in its senior-day contest at Hickey Field, but the Saints led for all of the final 54:55 after McNeely’s first goal of the game. A second goal of the game from Annie Brennan, a fifth-year senior, with 3:24 remaining in regulation put the Saints ahead 13-10, and Siena was able to hold off visiting Monmouth despite the Hawks pulling within 13-12 with 1:37 to go. ....
