Hometown and Borderland Co-ops propose a merge

With 218 employees and 7,800 members, Borderland Co-op has locations in Moosomin, Rocanville, Maryfield and Whitewood.
Hometown Co-op has 86 employees and 5,200 members, and serves the communities of Kipling, Grenfell, Sintaluta and Broadview.
Jason Schenn, CEO of Borderland and GM of Hometown shares his views about the merger.

Maryfield farmer says moisture in late-season snow will help

John Van Eaton says moisture in the form of snow in April will make a difference as spring seeding gets under way.

Van Eaton farms northeast of Maryfield, planning on planting spring wheat, barley, canola, and peas this year.

He says that the moisture that was received in April snowfall will make for ideal conditions for germinating crops, however additional moisture will be needed after seeding is complete.

“We’re still very concerned about moisture levels, not so much perhaps for germinating a crop but certainly for grassland and pasture. We’re going to be reliant on timely rains this summer because the subsoil moisture is not going to carry us through the season,” VanEaton said. ....

Ministers Foley and Ryan launch â¬14 million 2021 Schools Energy Retrofit Pathfinder Programme

Minister for Education Norma Foley TD and Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Eamon Ryan TD today (Monday 26 April) launched a â¬14 million Pathfinder programme, that will demonstrate the approach to deep retrofit in the schoolsâ sector, testing energy efficiency solutions and renewable heat technology.
This government-funded energy retrofit Pathfinder programme will target energy use and CO2 emission reduction by 50%, testing deep retrofit and low carbon heating solutions. The 2021 programme will see six schools benefitting from a selection of energy efficiency works.
It is jointly funded with a â¬14 million budget from the Department of Education and Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the Planning and Building Unit i ....
