As a regional medical care network that serves the midshore region of the Eastern Shore, including Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties, the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UMSRH) has had its hands full during the pandemic.
But according to President and CEO Kenneth Kozel, the organization has met the challenge.
“From my perspective, Shore Regional Health’s biggest success in responding to the pandemic has been our ability to fulfill our role as the anchor institution in the communities we serve,” Kozel said.
“In Maryland’s rural midshore, our populations are small, we are geographically dispersed and have very limited resources,” he added. “Nevertheless, UMSRH has recognized the need for innovation, integration and team work and we have taken the lead to address the challenges our community has faced. ....

University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health (UM UCH) has appointed
Jo Anne Thomson, MN, RN-BC, CPXP, as vice president of patient experience.
Thomson comes to UM UCH after 21 years at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, also a University of Maryland Medical System hospital. For the past six years she served as director of patient experience, where she expanded the role to include strategic direction, leadership and regional oversight for improving the patient experience.
She implemented a comprehensive service excellence approach called HEART that focused on several areas including team building and supporting and sustaining a culture of caring and accountability. Thomson also led “best practice” initiatives such as rounding, bedside shift report, employee recognition, service recovery and discharge. In addition, she leveraged technology to support and enhance patient experience in such areas as interpretative services and connecting patients ....

Chesapeake is critical to pandemic recovery

Each April, our nation celebrates the role of community colleges. In 2021, community colleges are faced with aiding in the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. As a regional community college, Chesapeake College is well-equipped to help the residents and businesses of our region recover from the pandemic and emerge stronger.
As health professions students learn in our labs again and student athletes return to competition this spring, we see signs of hope at Chesapeake. We look forward to in-person â though altered â commencement ceremonies in May for both our 2020 and 2021 graduates. Planning is underway for more in-person classes in the fall with increased activity on campus scheduled in the summer. ....
