CPS Looks To Offer Families Learning Options That 'Fit Their Needs'

The distance learning option on the table would have a child either attending school at the Cincinnati Digital Academy or distance learning through the online platform Schoology.
The other option is to have class in-person five days a week. The in-person option will require mask wearing and other COVID protocols, but social distancing may not be at the CDC recommendation of six feet in some cases. Superintendent Laura Mitchell called the situation a balancing act.
The information and data is changing on a regular basis, Mitchell said. The thresholds are shifting on a regular basis as well. What we can do right now is to offer our families options and choices within our districts that will fit their needs. ....

With 'Majority' Interested, CPS To Start Vaccinating Staff Jan. 28

Staff members will be separated into multiple groups for vaccinations, corresponding with the phase-in dates for blended learning. Group A will consist of teachers and paraprofessionals from pre-K through third grade, as well as teachers in specialized classrooms.
Board Member Pamela Bowers said the district has been working with Gov. Mike DeWine s office for weeks, focusing on Phase 1B of the state s vaccination plan.
We re ahead of other districts in our state with being ready to roll out a plan for the vaccine, Bowers said.
Staff will receive the Pfizer vaccine, which will be administered in two separate shots 21 days apart. If a staff member gets vaccinated on Jan. 28, then they would be able to receive the vaccine on Feb. 18. That is 17 days after the first day of the blended learning transition for the first phase and three days after the second phase. ....

Cincinnati Public Schools plans to phase back into in-person school starting in February.
Gov. Mike DeWine has said adults working in K-12 schools who want to return or remain educating in person can start receiving vaccines Feb. 1. The state’s goal is to have schools return to in-person learning by March 1.
