Still Game for the Valley bothy torched as group vows to build back

CALLOUS firebugs torched a bothy constructed as part of a fight against controversial development plans.
Louts set fire to Still Game for the Valley’s hut in Collina Street, which was extinguished last night, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said, destroying the structure.
Billy McAllister, chairman of the group, said he wanted people in the community to feel connected to the campaign, named in a nod to the site’s history as the backdrop the beloved BBC Scotland sitcom.
“We said to ourselves, how can we get people interested and make a claim on the land themselves?
“We wanted to build a community garden, so as we come into the spring and summer, we can grow fruit and vegetables. ....

Locals to 'occupy' Glasgow regeneration area used as set for Still Game

LOCAL people are set to begin staging an occupation of derelict land used as the main location in the BBC’s Still Game today, in a bid to stop Glasgow City Council selling it for a private housing development.
Living Rent and Wyndford Tenants Union say the occupation in The Valley on Collina Street in Glasgow’s Maryhill will start at noon, matching the council’s original deadline for developer bids, although this has now been extended.
To comply with social distancing, one person at a time will occupy a tent on the site and a string of volunteers intend to maintain a presence round-the-clock until the council stops the sale and speaks with locals, who are considering a community buyout. ....
