DENVER It s been a brutal week for bicyclists on Metro Denver streets.
Three bicyclists were struck and killed by drivers last week, and members of Denver s cycling community say that s three too many.
They want changes to make streets safer.
Dozens of bike riders took to the streets in a critical mass ride Sunday afternoon, to draw attention to the dangers of distracted driving, speed and impairment.
We re here today because we will not accept a world where three people are killed in one week, just because they re riding a bicycle, said critical mass organizer Allen Cowgill. ....

The driver accused of hitting and killing a champion cyclist who was riding in a bike lane in Lakewood has been formally charged with multiple counts, including two for vehicular homicide.
Ryan Scott Montoya, 29, appeared in Jefferson County court on Friday. According to a news release from the district attorney’s office, he is charged with:
Vehicular homicide – DUI
Driving under the influence –second alcohol-related offense
Careless driving
Hitting a bicyclist or other authorized user in the bicycle lane

Gwen Inglis death: Driver accused of hitting cyclist charged

Gwen Inglis, 46, was hit and killed while riding in the bike lane on West Alameda Parkway near South McIntyre Street and South Indiana Street the morning of May 16 when prosecutors said Montoya drifted to the right and hit her.
Inglis and her husband had been riding together just before the crash. The DA’s office said Montoya came close to hitting Inglis’ husband as well.
Montoya stayed on the scene after the crash, and police said he showed signs of impairment.
He had a previous DUI in 2014, according to prosecutors.
Montoya is being held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond, and is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 15. ....

LAKEWOOD, Colo. â A woman riding her bike was killed after a suspected impaired driver collided with the cyclist on West Alameda Parkway in Lakewood Sunday morning.
The driver of the vehicle, an adult male, remained on scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, police said. The type of drug was not disclosed by police.
The female cyclist was in the bike lanes heading eastbound on West Alameda Parkway near South Indiana Street when the suspect, heading in the same direction, veered off the road and collided with the cyclist, according to Lakewood police. ....
