Victoria reinstates some coronavirus restrictions after a new infection in hotel quarantine

A Victorian hotel quarantine worker has tested positive to COVID-19, prompting the state government to reintroduce masks indoors and reduce the size of private gatherings.
The state s health department revealed the positive test on Wednesday night, adding that public health teams were investigating the case and close contacts were being notified.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the new case was in a 26-year-old man from Noble Park in Melbourne s south-east who had been working as a resident support worker as part of the Australian Open quarantine program. ....

Expert calls for bracelet tracking system in hotel quarantine amid WA outbreak

A bracelet tracking system could strengthen Western Australia’s hotel quarantine system and allow those from low-risk countries to isolate at home, according to UNSW infection control expert Professor Marylouise McLaws.
Professor McLaws said tracking bracelets could lessen the risk of COVID-19 leaking out of hotel quarantine by ensuring no one inappropriately enters or leaves their room.
She also said tracking bracelets could be worn by hotel staff to ensure only those trained to do so enter special areas.
“You really need a system where no one s leaving that room and if there has been a breach that can be dealt with instantaneously, not once a cleaner or a staff member has been found to be infected,” Professor McLaws said. ....

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, has been sent into a 5-day lockdown after a security guard tests positive for Covid-19. 
The state has been free of cases for ten months, but this new addition has been responded to swiftly to avoid a potential spread. 
As per the lockdown rules, people are only permitted to leave their homes for essential reasons, such as shopping for food, medical needs, exercise (limited to one hour a day), and work when one cannot work from home.  ....
