Bear hug warm welcome all round

Children were in for a big surprise when they returned to school this week, as they found an additional welcome awaiting them.
Pupils at Arlecdon, Dearham, Flimby and Thornhill primary schools were delighted to discover furry friends located in their classrooms.
With the combined support of the schools’ PTAs and The West Lakes Multi-Academy Trust a teddy bear was purchased for each child and customised for each of the four primary schools with the school logos emblazoned on the teddy bears’ t-shirts.
The schools, aware that children may have mixed emotions about returning, with some excited and others anxious, hoped that the bears would be a supportive and entertaining way to help them settle back into their school routine. ....

West Lakes Multi Academy Trust selected as hub for teachers and leaders

West Lakes Multi Academy Trust has been selected to provide high-quality professional development to teachers and leaders.
Under its “One Cumbria” vision, the Egremont Academy will become one of 81 newly designated teaching school hubs in England. Teachers across the country will benefit from vital developmental support and expert advice, allowing them to improve a broad range of teaching skills, under plans announced by the Department for Education.
The teaching workforce will get best-practice and expert advice on how best to engage with pupils, lesson planning, and classroom management, as the teaching school hubs programme is rolled out across the country. ....

This week we hear from Thornhill Primary in Egremont about there adaptation to the new normal .
Here at Thornhill Primary we do everything we can to make learning fun and purposeful. Our small but growing school family aim to meet the needs of every child as they grow. Our youngest students benefit from a range of indoor and outdoor learning opportunities which fully support early development from age two. In the primary years, lessons are focused on key questions for learning. Our curriculum seeks to develop confidence and an understanding of key skills and knowledge.
