Ballyshannon Tommy, which sold for €3,200.
The Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society hosted the second of the May sales this weekend, with the Angus breed making up most of the lots present.
Strong pedigree and commercial demand meant a few super prices were achieved, along with an excellent clearance rate.
In total, 35 of the 39 Angus bulls on offer sold to average just shy of €2,450.
Leading the way
Leading the prices with a top call of €6,000 was the very first bull into the ring, Bunlahy Sean Dubh ET.
Bunlahy Sean Dubh ET which sold for €6,000.
Bred by brothers Aidan and David Reynolds from Ballinalee, Co Longford, the powerful October bull is out of the herd’s famous Bianca line. ....

Top call of €4,000 for Charolais in Carrick-on-Shannon

The top price of the sale went to Brian McWeeney for his March 2020-born Goldstar Echo son selling for €4,000.
The Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society saw a smaller entry of bulls for its May sale but trade was brisk for any quality bulls present.
The top call of the day at €4,000 went to Brian McWeeney, Balinamore, Co Leitrim, for his March 2020-born Goldstar Echo son. He had a four-star terminal index of €111 and a calving figure of 5.4% and was knocked down to a Northern Ireland purchaser.
Next highest price went to Eoin O’Neill for his March 2020-born Derryolam Impeccable son. He has a five-star terminal index of €135 and a calving figure of 6.6%. He was sold at €3,750. ....

Charolais sell to €4,800 in Carrick


Laheens Promise, which sold for €4,800, exhibited by breeder Cormac Duignan.
The continental breeds took pride of place in Carrick-on-Shannon last weekend for the Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society’s April sale.
The majority of bulls on offer were of the Charolais breed, with a total of 24 going under the hammer of auctioneer Francie McGowan.
Of these, 19 sold for a strong average price of €2,950.
This average is up a massive €300 on the same sale in 2019, with last year s called off due to restrictions.
Top call
This average was helped by three of the bulls sold making €4,000 or more.
Top of these was a call of €4,800 for Laheens Promise from the herd of local breeders Cathal and Cormac Duignan. ....
