Residents and businesses displayed a range of creations, based around Christian Aid Week’s theme this year of climate justice.
Everything from polar bears to bees, and figures ranging from Sir David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg to Dolly Parton, could be spotted.
An online fundraising page was set-up, at justgiving.com/fundraising/haworthscarecrows, which has coined-in over £1,300.
The Rev Chris Upton, of West Lane Baptist Church in Haworth, said: “Over the past five years our main fundraiser in Christian Aid Week has been a pop-up shop through the week and the 1940s Weekend. ....

RESIDENTS and local businesses across Haworth are scaring away the crows this May as they take part in the first Haworth Scarecrow festival for Christian Aid.
The creativity and humour of the community is reflected in their creations that embrace the Christian Aid Week theme of Climate Justice, with scarecrows from polar bears to bees, with special appearances by famous artists and celebrities including Dolly Parton, David Attenborough and two Greta Thunbergs.
Rev Chris Upton, of West Lane Baptist Church, said: “Over the past five years our main fundraiser in Christian Aid Week has been the pop-up shop through the week and the 1940’s weekend. This year we needed something Covid safe, that brought some fun and connection to the local community and encouraged people to get out and walk around after such a long time in lockdown.” ....

Scarecrows call to villagers

SCARECROWS are set to appear across a village.
Churches in Haworth are inviting people to create them for this year’s Christian Aid Week, starting on May 10.
A special Facebook page has been set-up to showcase what’s being made and there’s a Just Giving site for anyone wishing to make a donation – the tag for both is ‘haworthscarecrows’.
The venture is also being promoted to primary schools through the churches’ weekly video assembly.
Rector of Haworth, the Rev Peter Mullins, said: “This is something people can do at home. It doesn’t matter whether the scarecrows are large for front gardens or small to display in windows.” ....
