Chester: Foodbank sees 60 per cent increase for demand | Chester and District Standard

WEST Cheshire Foodbank has seen a 60 per cent increase in demand year on year over the last quarter, the charity has revealed.
Affiliated to the Trussell Trust, but a charity in its own right with distribution centres across Neston, Ellesmere Port, Chester, and surrounding rural areas, the registered charity is funded by donations.
The foodbank successfully applied to Redrow’s King’s Moat Garden Village Community Fund for the Chester area and received £1,000 towards providing food parcels and activity packs for families during school holidays.
West Cheshire Foodbank finance trustee Ian Oulton said: “The foodbank has a strong record of working with the community to support local people and provide access to emergency food for those in crisis. ....

Chester school principal releases charity music single to tackle food poverty

A CHESTER school principal has written and released a music single to raise funds for local good causes.
Nigel Paramor, known in the music industry as Mister Wulf, has been so inspired by the spirit of Chester community during the pandemic, has written and released the song Catastrophe .
Sales and streaming proceeds will be donated to the Trussell Trust and West Cheshire Foodbank, to support their campaign for a future where everyone can afford their own food.
Nigel, 60, has fundraised and supported West Cheshire Foodbank for several years, and in January 2021 wrote ‘Catastrophe’, a song about the impact of the pandemic has had on people, and the inspiring support people and communities have given to each other during these difficult times. ....

Chester Lions Club appeals for funding donations in big Easter eggs appeal

A CHESTER club is aiming to spread a little joy this Easter by providing Easter eggs to disadvantaged children in the community.
Chester Lions Club is collecting funds so it can pay for dozens upon dozens of Easter eggs, which it will donate to the West Cheshire Food Bank to distribute to children who might otherwise go without.
Back in January, the Food Bank provided food for nearly 600 children, a 64 per cent increase on last year.
Chester Lions Club says times are hard enough for many families in financial crisis, but imagine 600 children going without an Easter egg.
The club has committed to provide 1,000 Easter eggs for the Food Bank to distribute to children in the area. ....

Online workshop 'Cash Chats' offers help to Ellesmere Port and Neston council tenants

COUNCIL housing tenants in Ellesmere Port and Neston who are struggling to deal with the financial shock caused by the Covid-19 pandemic are being offered support through an innovative new online workshop.
Social landlord ForHousing, the provider of the council’s housing management services, has launched Cash Chats – online sessions which are targeted at tenants who have accrued rent arrears due to the current crisis.
The sessions provide information, advice and guidance for those affected by financial shock, or those who need additional support, enabling them to gain a greater understanding and more confidence around financial issues.
Janet Lawton, strategic homelessness and contract lead at ForHousing, said: “Everyone has been affected by the pandemic this year. For many it’s been a really difficult time financially, especially those who were already on lower incomes. ....
