St. Mary's testing site for COVID-19 now open

In accordance with Gov. Laura Kelly and the Ford County Health Department, the City of Dodge City opened a second free drive-up testing site for COVID-19 at the St. Mary s Soccer Complex located at 240 San Jose Drive.
The secondary site is a supplemental location to the ongoing testing at Western State Bank Expo Center being run by WellHealth.
According to city officials, the St. Mary s site can be accessed by turning east on north Central Avenue at San Jose Drive; Follow past the Dodge City Family YMCA until reaching the Soccer Complex parking area and traffic will be dispersed through Sister Meleesa Lane. ....

JROTC program presents before USD 443 board

Returning after a long break following its Nov. 9 meeting, the Dodge City Unified School District 443 Board of Education was given a presentation of information by the Air Force Junior ROTC program, overseen by instructor Master Sgt. Raymond Gonzales and four of his students that make unit KS-2021.
In 2018, USD 443 made the decision to pursue an Air Force JROTC program and in late 2019 was awarded an Air Force JROTC program with the expectation of implementing this program in August 2020.
Gonzales was hired to fill one of the two instructor positions in June 2020, and from there began to develop the program. ....

Ford County now has 30 deaths due to COVID-19

According to Ford County physicians adviser Dr. R.C. Trotter, there was one new death over the weekend, bringing the overall total to 30 since the coronavirus pandemic began.
The death was confirmed on Monday.
It was an older gentleman that had multiple diagnoses, Trotter said of the latest death.
According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, there had been no new deaths in any of the Ford County nursing homes as of Nov. 29.
On Friday, Dec. 11, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment showed Ford County added 30 new cases of the coronavirus with a case rate of 145.6 per 1,000 people. ....

DODGE CITY In the midst of a worsening pandemic, as coronavirus cases climbed, elected leaders in a former frontier town famous for its gunfights faced a choice.
They could pass a mask mandate at the urging of health experts, or reject the measure blasted by some as a violation of their personal freedoms.
The five commissioners of Dodge City, Kansas, a politically red cattle community of some 27,000 people, had resisted such measures all summer and into fall. Like other parts of rural and small-city America, Dodge City had mostly returned to normal after shaking off the pandemic’s first wave. ....
