Youth center gains new parent organization

The Tomales Bay Youth Center, a hub for young people located on the West Marin School campus, has been adopted by West Marin Community Services. The acquisition will provide a more secure future for the center, which started in 2011 as a program of the West Marin Lions Club. Over time, the project grew and provided after-school services and served as a hub for youth advocacy. Madeline Hope, the director of the youth center, said the project relied on many disparate funding streams and the Lions Club had been looking to merge with a larger community partner for years; at the same time, West Marin Community Services was looking to expand its influence on youth services. After consulting with the Center for Volunteer Nonprofit Leadership and conducting a feasibility study, the boards of the Lions Club and West Marin Community Services voted to move forward with the merger, which began on July 1. New super for school district

Adam Jennings, the principal of Tomales High School for the past eight years, will step into the role of superintendent of Shoreline Unified School District this summer.
The district’s board selected Mr. Jennings through a competitive process to replace Bob Raines, who is retiring after five years at the post and more than four decades in education.
“Adam has really built a culture that is centered around equity and accountability at the high school, and his efforts to include all students and all families shows,” Mr. Raines said. “He works well with staff: He listens, he incorporates feedback in ways that are exceptional, and he is a leader, stepping in to support and coach our new principals.” ....

Point Reyes lights obscure stars, village association says

The Point Reyes Station Village Association wants to restore the visibility of the night sky.
A new lighting review committee met earlier this month for a night walk and identified several buildings with lights that do not follow the town’s community plan. Now, they are reaching out to the building owners, requesting that they install more discreet lighting.
Wells Fargo is the most egregious offender, with 12 bulbs shining into its parking lot. West Marin School, the fire station, the gas station, the Livery Stable and Side Street Kitchen were also identified as having problematic lighting.
Preserving the ability to stargaze is a tenet of the Point Reyes Station community plan, which is used by county planners to evaluate permits. The plan, established in 1976 to accompany the Marin Countywide Plan, is legally enforceable. Point Reyes librarian retires after two decades at community post

After the better part of two decades at the helm of the Point Reyes Library, Jennifer Livingston retired last week. Admired for her energy, dedication and can-do spirit, Ms. Livingston has been the glue between the library and community members of all ages throughout her tenure. “She’s a bridge builder, she’s an ally, she’s the kind of person you always want on your team because she will give it 1,000 percent,” said Madeline Hope, who has collaborated with Ms. Livingston to offer local youth programming over the years. In addition to presiding over the library’s collection, staff and programs, Ms. Livingston has served as a key liaison with the schools, including leading library visits, supporting class projects, and spearheading an effort to provide every student with a library card. “Jennifer and her team have just been one of the best resources our school could have asked for,” said Peggy Reina, West Marin S ....
