Official: New retail development shows west-side downtown prospects rising

JANESVILLE
Even though the ongoing pandemic may bring hurdles to new businesses for monthsâand even as the city s west-side downtown grinds through its second major street tear-up in two years, there are signs that a bit of momentum could be returning to Janesvilleâs west-side downtown.
Take the planned Wall Street Suites: a 6,000-square-foot set of office suites and a companion drive-thru coffee shop that a set of local developers says could spring up later this year just west of Janesville City Hall.
When the city council this week approved a zoning change and OKâd a $120,000 tax-incentive package along with a transfer of a sliver of city land to help ease the Wall Street Suites into development, the councilâs approval came with a few wishes of good luck to the developers. ....

Janesville downtown redevelopment honored

The city of Janesville gets another award for reconstruction projects downtown. The American Public Works Association-Wisconsin Chapter has named the West Milwaukee Street Bridge reconstruction a small city project of the year. This is the second project in downtown Janesville to win the award in as many years. Last year the Westside Town Square was honored. City Public Works Director Paul Woodard calls it an indication of the quality of work going into efforts to revitalize the downtown.
