Man who suffered severe back pain died after medication increased

A PATIENT who was sent for rehabilitation at a Winchester hotel during the height of the Covid pandemic died after his medication was increased, an inquest heard.
Fahed Dinawi was admitted to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester when he had accidentally taken an overdose of paracetamol and was later sent to Basingstoke hospital for ongoing back pain.
Mr Dinawi had been suffering with severe back pain for a number of years, but surgery was not an option as he had been operated on in 2017 for lumbar spine.
At an inquest into Mr Dinawi’s death at Winchester Coroner’s Court, consultant orthopaedic surgeon Christopher Bailey said that the hospital looked at ways to manage his pain. ....

A NUMBER of residents have died at an Andover care home following a Covid outbreak, the Advertiser can report.
Sources told the Advertiser that at least five residents have died at Andover Nursing Home, located on Weyhill Road, as a result of the outbreak, with others having
tested positive for the virus. When this was put to Andover Care Limited, which runs the home, they did not dispute this.
The home is being supported by Public Health England, who said they had been informed of deaths at the home but were unable to provide an exact figure.
A director of Andover Care Limited said that Andover Nursing Home was “communicating regularly with all residents, their families, and our local public health team” in response to the outbreak. ....

30k have received vaccine at Hampshire Court Hotel

MORE than 30,000 people have now been vaccinated at a hub in Basingstoke, according to the town s MP.
Maria Miller said that the Hampshire GP vaccine hub, operating at Hampshire Court Hotel, has now administered the Covid-19 vaccine to at least 30,000 people since it was set up on December 16.
She said the hub has been used to vaccinate vulnerable groups as quickly as possible , adding: The UK has already vaccinated more than the rest of Europe combined , with 1.3million now having received their first dose.
She was questioned why some vulnerable people had not yet received the vaccine, and said: The group being vaccinated at the moment is the over 80s. We have a population that is older than other parts of the country so more people fall into this group. ....
