One thing that they ll all have in common is the lack of Thunderbolt 3, something that s been widely criticized in the Surface lineup for a couple of years now. After all, most other premium PCs on the market have the technology, which supports data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps, and allows you to connect two 4K monitors (or a single 5K monitor) on a single port.
That s changing with this year s refresh, according to the leaks. We ll see USB Type-C, but it will likely be USB 3.1 Gen 1 like we saw with the Book 2 and the Go. That means it will support speeds of up to 5Gbps, just like the proprietary Surface Connect port. We still won t get Thunderbolt 3, like we already get from Dell s XPS lineup, HP s Spectre lineup, Lenovo s Yoga lineup, and more. ....

This will all come in a package with a 10-inch screen, is 20% lighter than the Surface Pro, and according to Bloomberg, offers four hours fewer of battery life. There s only one big problem, which is that this product makes no sense at all, from any angle.

It s been over 10 months since Microsoft first announced its dual-screen Surface Duo, and after all of the leaks since then, all that was left up to the imagination was the price. Among Microsoft enthusiasts like myself, there was a lot of speculation about what the price would be.
I thought that the sweet spot would be $699, given the rumored specs, although to be fair, the original rumors were that the base model would have 64GB of storage. I d have said $699/$799/$899 for 64GB/128GB/256GB. But the reason I came up with that price is because the Duo is a mid-range phone. ....

As a fellow tech enthusiast myself, that idea is particularly appealing, but if we stop and think for a minute, can we really say that a modular Surface Studio would be of any practical use or uniquely serve a purpose that its other, non-modular equivalents can t?
The idea of modular design is, of course, not new to the Surface line or Panay. It s an idea that s been around for quite a while. Even Google dabbled with it, courtesy of its now-defunct Project Ara, an attempt to make a modular smartphone. As Ara enthusiasts will tell you, its design was simply incredible and utterly futuristic. You could swap out almost any of the major components of the phone for better ones without needing to change the rest of the phone. ....
