County repeals mask mandate, but still recommends mask use

The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted to 4-1 to repeal the mask mandate and continue recommending masks at the emergency meeting Friday afternoon.
In order to stay in line with the Center for Disease Control and Preventionâs updated guidance on Thursday, announcing fully-vaccinated individuals can go unmasked in indoor and outdoor settings in most cases, the board passedÂ Resolution 2021-35. The resolution repealsÂ Resolution 2020-96, the mask requirement, while continuing to recommend mask use for unvaccinated individuals and in some cases those vaccinated.
The countyâs Chief Medical Officer Dr. Francisco Garcia acknowledged the contradictions between the boardâs resolution and the CDCâs recommendation, as the resolution required face masks without differentiating between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. ....

County Repeals Mask Mandate, But Continues Recommending Mask Use

The resolution also requests establishments provide masks for employees who are not fully vaccinated and encourage the use of masks, but makes clear the resolution does not prevent establishments from setting their own standards on masks and social distancing, or refusing service for noncompliance.
After the resolution, Christy motioned to “rescind, remove and terminate” board Resolution 2020-18, which declared Pima County in a state of emergency related to the COVID 19 outbreak. The motion died for lack of a second.
While Supervisor Matt Heinz said he would love to be able to support such a motion, “we still are in a pandemic.” ....

Gov. Doug Ducey s Executive Order on Friday allows coronavirus occupancy limits in businesses to expire but physical distancing and mask protocols remain in place.
Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy said the order changes things for gyms and restaurants.
It did make it more difficult on the gyms and restaurants because no matter how clean they kept it or how compliant they were, they were under capacity-reduction limits, he said Friday. So, I was personally happy to see it. ....

Sahuarita ended up in three supervisory districts the last time Pima County went through redistricting in 2010. Now the process is due to begin again, but the boundaries could stay the same.
Every 10 years, the state and local jurisdictions look at governing boundaries to balance populations following the U.S. Census. After the 2010 Census, the Pima County Redistricting Advisory Committee recommended splitting Sahuarita among three supervisor districts â Districts 2, 3 and 4. Rancho Sahuarita and Sahuarita Heights remained in District 2, but areas west of Interstate 19 shifted to Supervisor Sharon Bronson s District 3. ....

Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen told Supervisor Steve Christy she thinks COVID cases are up because people aren t wearing masks and she knows this because she sees it while she is driving. No science behind it. And Pima County not only had it s curfew ruled illegal, the county was caught lying about curfew violators.
