California lifts COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, curfew for all regions

Gov. Gavin Newsom lifted stay-at-home orders across the state Monday in response to improving coronavirus conditions, a surprising move hailed by beleaguered businesses. But some local health experts worried it could undo the recent sharp drop in cases and hospitalizations.
The change comes as the numbers of COVID-19 hospitalizations and intensive care unit patients have declined since early January. It allows restaurants and churches to resume outdoor operations and hair and nail salons to reopen in many areas, though local officials could choose to impose stricter rules. The state is also lifting a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew. ....

In case you missed it, the state of California is now allowing those 65 and older to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
In Los Angeles County, health officials at first said they weren t ready to immunize people in that age group until February at the earliest.becuase there were simply not enough vacinne doses. That changed a week later.
Caveat: there are still not enough vaccine doses.
Meanwhile, Long Beach, as well as Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties are moving forward with the 65+ age group but not without hurdles.
Of course, none of this is simple. It never is. We re dealing with many layers of bureaucracy in addition to under-resourced, burnt-out public health departments public agencies that are also tasked with managing the winter case surge. ....

County's COVID-19 testing facilities expand hours to accommodate local residents

San Bernardino County residents have responded impressively to officialsâ pleas to get tested for COVID-19, with more than 465,000 tests having been conducted in December alone.
Demand for tests continues to be strong, with appointments consistently filling up two or three days in advance.
In response, several of the countyâs testing facilities (including the Jessie Turner Center in Fontana) are expanding hours until 8 p.m. to accommodate residents and are expected to maintain these extended hours through Jan. 8.
âWe are proud of how county residents have responded to our requests to get testing,â said County Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman, who noted that the countyâ testing numbers have recently exceeded state requirements. âWe are continuing to encourage everyone, including those without symptoms, to schedule an appointment to get tested.â ....

More than 21,000 doses of the recently authorized Moderna COVID-19 vaccine were sent to San Bernardino County on Monday, as the coronavirus continues to rapidly spread across the state and county.
The 21,560 doses the county received will be administered to frontline health care workers “beginning immediately,” county officials said.
“For several months, San Bernardino County has been working aggressively with the state and our countywide health system to craft a plan for shipping, storage and distribution of vaccines once they became available,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman in a statement. “This preparation put us in an excellent position to get doses to these frontline heroes.” ....
