Jonathan India returns from injured list

CINCINNATI The Reds activated second baseman Jonathan India from the injured list on Sunday after the rookie had a brief two-game absence for unspecified reasons.
Outfielder Mark Payton was optioned to the alternate training site to make room for India. Manager David Bell still had Nick Senzel making his second career start at second base in Sunday’s series finale vs. the Cubs.
“Jonathan hadn’t played for a few days. He was then sick,” Bell said. “He’s 100 percent healthy today, but it’d be a good day to get him back, get him some swings in the cage and run around a little bit. Have him off the bench, and then have him in that capacity today, I thought, made more sense.” ....

CINCINNATI (AP) Nick Castellanos came out swinging with his bat a day after being ejected for inciting a bench-clearing melee, hitting a three-run homer and triple to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 12-1 rout over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
Tyler Naquin also a three-run shot for the Reds, who won two in a row to take the opening series in matchup of NL Central teams that earned wild-card spots last season.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is out for an indefinite period after testing positive for COVID-19 at spring training, the team said Wednesday.
The Reds put Votto on the injured list and he gave the team permission to announce he was sidelined because he had tested positive for the virus.
The 36-year-old Votto has played in four spring training games, going 4 for 9 at the plate. Last season he hit .226 in 54 games, with 11 home runs and 22 RBI. ....
