Odyssey of the Mind teams to compete in World Finals
Onslow County Schools’ Odyssey of the Mind (OM) teams recently competed in the OM state finals. Dixon Elementary team won first place and Blue Creek Elementary team placed third. Odyssey of the Mind is an academic competition program open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders in which teams are formed to creatively solve a variety of long-term problems. Both teams will go on to compete virtually at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals.
Columbia College dean s list
Kathryn Pilkenton of Jacksonville and Tony Johnson of Midway Park were recently named to the dean’s list at Columbia College online for Spring 2021 semester.
CARTERET COUNTY â Health officials reported 45 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Carteret County Friday, though the number of active cases dropped slightly from Thursday down to 390.
The new cases bring Carteret Countyâs overall total to 2,569 documented cases since March. Of those, the county reports 2,154 people have recovered and 24 have died.
The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City remained at 15 for the second day after hitting a record high of 16 earlier in the week.
Meanwhile, the Carteret County public school system has reported eight additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases connected to schools to 125 as of Friday afternoon. The newest cases were reported Wednesday and Thursday at White Oak Elementary School, three cases; West Carteret High School, two; Croatan High School, one; Newport Elementary School, one; and Morehead City Middle School, one.
CARTERET COUNTY â The Carteret County Health Department announced Monday another person has died from complications related to COVID-19, bringing the countyâs death toll to 23 since the start of the pandemic.
According to county health officials, the latest COVID-19 death occurred Saturday. The individual who died was in their 80s and had preexisting health conditions.
âThe Health Department sends our condolences to the family and loved ones of this residents,â Health Director Stephanie Cannon said.
Meanwhile, the county reported 43 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases Monday for 2,330 total documented cases. Of those cases, 333 are considered active and 1,974 have recovered. Carteret Health Care in Morehead City reported nine COVID-19 hospitalizations Monday, down slightly from 10 hospitalizations reported Friday. Â
